Overview

PRODUCT DETAILS

The Sigma 120-300 F2.8 DG HSM OS is the first lens introduced into the Sports category for Sigma’s Global Vision. Designed for full frame cameras but can work with APS-C sized sensors as well, the 120-300 F2.8 has a large aperture and versatile focal length, ideal for a wide range of photography. Though placed in the Sports category, the 120-300 F2.8 is also great for nature, automotive, wildlife, and everything in between. Equipped with state of the art technology such as a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), an Optical Stabilizer (OS) and Inner Focusing and Zooming, the 120-300 F2.8 ensures sharp and beautiful images. The HSM allows for a quiet, fast, and accurate autofocusing while the OS compensates for camera shake while shooting by hand. Two FLD glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite, are incorporated with one SLD element to reduce color aberration at the highest degree. The Sports category offers not only a higher level of customization through the Sigma USB dock*, but also has a dust and splash proof design.

This image was taken for a bridal salon. The backdrop wasn’t very wide so I chose to use the 120-300mm lens so that I could narrow the view and also so I could zoom up for a close up and zoom out for the full view to save time.

My all time favorite lens is the 120-300mm . I love the variety of focal lengths I get out of this lens. My normal routine with this lens is to set the focal length to 120mm and then back up from subject till I get a full view (normally about 25 feet away). Then I have the freedom to zoom up to a close up without moving. This photograph was taken at 2.8 1/100 iso100 120mm. at 30 feet away

I love this lens immensely for all of my soccer shooting actions shots. It gives me great user range as well as the speed of focusing. I am very much an amateur photographer by this lens makes all my pictures appear almost pro like as I have gotten many compliments from the parents on my team. This pic not only captures the player, but does not get distracted by the background of parents and locks in well on the action.

I was at Pebble Beach in Crescent City to photograph the sunset. I was (and got) a shot of the sun just above the horizon, but I loved the look of when the sun was almost below the horizon. The layers of the atmosphere and the look of the waves gave it a "watercolor" look.

Awesome Lens
Tack sharp, even with the 1.4x tele...and fast. This is the perfect bird lens for most situations. Manual focus is precise, and AF is fast and quiet. Although I loved the image quality of the previous generation of this lens there were problems with the focus drive and contacts - Sigma appears to have taken care of those issues with this version. Have taken about 2000 images with this lens and have nothing but laudatory remarks!

Beautiful Lens
I picked up this lens 2 days ago, took some out of the box photos, updated it on the USB dock, took it out yesterday to the Edmonton Muttart (indoor flowers and plant display) and took photos of such amazing quality, I'm simply blown away at not just the clarity and vibrant color this lens delivered, but image stabilization on a level that none will likely ever match. To be able to take a hand held photo at 1/20th of a second, at basically 192mm, is almost 10x the "recommended" shutter to focal rule, yet still get amazing sharp clear images. I don't do reviews typically, but for this lens, Bravo about sums it up.
