The Modern Classic

A common focal length, uncommonly good. This fast and versatile wide-angle workhorse excels at landscapes, event photography, and environmental portraits.

  • Classic focal length, modern design
  • Impressively fast autofocus
  • Very sharp, even at F1.4

Stellar Performance

A “normal” lens that’s anything but. The unique focal length takes in more of the scene than a 50mm without wide-angle distortion, perfect for astrophotography.

  • Meets Cine lens performance standards
  • Virtually distortion-free
  • High resolution across the frame

This is the best wide-angle prime I have used in recent memory, perhaps ever. It’s a classic focal length mated with a fast aperture that together make for a flexible lens that’s well suited for many tasks.

I’m in love with what the 40mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art can produce. This is easily one of the best lenses I’ve reviewed so far. For one, the 40mm F1.4 is incredibly sharp, and I’m not just talking about in the center. It is virtually sharp edge to edge even at F1.4.

As with the rest of the Sigma Art lenses, the aesthetics and build quality of the 28mm F1.4 | Art lens will also impress. The 28mm focal length is very useful with strong general-purpose utility. This is not a cheap lens, but from a relative perspective, especially considering the near-best-in-class image quality, it is not high either.
