Overview

The Sigma 24mm 1.4 DG HSM Art is a state of the art wide-angle prime lens designed for Full Frame cameras but will work with APS-C sensors as well. Using over 50 years of lens making experience, particularly the knowledge gained from the 35mm 1.4 Art and the 50mm 1.4 Art, the 24mm 1.4 Art is aimed at being the new standard for fast aperture wide angle prime lenses. The latest optical design allows for the utmost in image quality with careful attention paid to edge to edge performance. An optimized power layout places the aspherical lens elements in the rear and adjusts the incidence angle of light source allowing for great performance wide open. Using premium FLD & SLD glass elements, the lens brings aberrations and distortion to a minimum, an issue many wide-angle lenses suffer from. With class leading performance, this lens is ideal for wedding photography, landscape photography, videography, astrophotography, lowlight/indoor photography and event photography. As with all Global Vision lines, the 24mm will be tested using the proprietary “A1” measuring system ensuring the highest standard of operation. The Sigma 24mm Art is compatible with the USB dock to update and customize and is also compatible with the Mount Conversion Service. A staple procedure for the Global Vision lines, every lens will be tested using the proprietary “A1” measuring system.

USB Dock Compatibility

Sigma has developed special software (SIGMA Optimization Pro) that can update the lens firmware and adjust parameters such as focus and full-time manual focus function.

*USB Dock is sold separately.

Love this image taken with the Sigma 24mm 1.4 lens at 3.2. Amazing sharpness, lack of distortion and price are reasons why I have switched to Sigma

Great but not wide enough for star trails
A great lens. I bought it because I was going to take a workshop on star trails. It wasn’t wiide enough and only showed the bottom half of the 360-degree trails. I sold the lens becauses I found I wasn’t using it for anything else. I do wildlife and nature photography. Probably need a 14mm or 15 mm for star trails. I have a 24-70 and 16-35 for landscape and end up using the 24-70 the most, usually zoomed in a little.

Positive
Wonderful lens. I purchased it for a Canon 7D MkII, I wanted a prime to simplify a walk around lens and find I use it a lot more than I imagined. Makes me think about my shot and the photo quality is outstanding. Very happy with focus speed but does hunt on occasion but I have never missed a shot with it. The focal length with the Canon crop sensor is about 38mm which is great.

Wedding photography
I am wedding photographer that hopes to make photography a full time job in the next 3 years. I bought this lens about 6 months ago and have used it on the t3i, 6D & 5D mIII. This is my first lens that can get as low as 1.4. I have a few other good lenses such as L series 100mm macro, 2 different 50mm canon primes (marco and the $50. lens), a canon 24mm EF-S, and some others. This lens is fun and a great business tool. It has great color & sharpness. I most always use autofocus because it allows me to do my job quickly. I can count on this lens. however when it gets dark (candle light) I sometimes have to switch to manual. I love the wide angle I predict this lens being in my line up and my fav for years to come. The lens feels well built. The price it is almost half the price of canon's 1.4 version. I have not had the opportunity to compare the two. I was able to rent canons 16-34mm L series before I made my decision to buy the Sigma Art 24mm. My next investment will be canons 50mm f/1.2L USM or sigmas Art 50mm, I haven't decided yet.

Best In Class
I believe Sigma continues to break new ground with the Art Series lenses. As a sharpness geek, looking at the results of the 35mm 1.4 back in the days it got it's first reviews I kept an eye for this series and also rented the 35 1.4 to find amazing results with it.

However as a photographer I was always after a 24 1.4 by either Canon or Nikon, I had kits from both companies (first Canon, now Nikon). I was using a 24-70 mostly for it's 24 and was not very satisfied at 2.8, always jealous for the super smooth bokeh in wide angle a 24 1.4 could offer. But I am a 24mm lover. The cost for both Canon and Nikon was holding me back, making me prefer 24-70's or 70-200's for the same money.

Sigma solved the price problem once and for all, and on top of that delivered a lens with a slight edge over the other 24 1.4 makers. I was delighted for this and tommorow I will be a happy owner.

My review is uneeded because every single review website I read is praising this one. I only rated quality with a 4 star, because despite Sigma delivering the best version of this lens, they still did not solve problems that follow a 24 1.4 such as edge sharpness. I guess it's very difficult for all lens makers to do that, so in the future I would keep an eye for a supersharp-everywhere version of this lens. But until then, Sigma is the boss.

Thanks for reading!
