Overview

dp tout

Redesigned in every aspect, including the sensor, engine, lens and body, the dp Quattro Compact Camera series embodies Sigma’s philosophy of creating cameras that produce works of art. The dp1 is the second camera in the new Quattro series to be released, with the dp2 currently available and the dp3 Quattro to follow. The dp1 is stocked with a fixed and newly designed 19mm 2.8 standard lens designed specifically and lined up perfectly with its new Foveon X3 Quattro sensor to create exceptional images. Renowned for unmatched image quality, the Foveon image sensor is Sigma’s proprietary technology which captures transmitted light in a vertical 3 layer sensor with dedicated layers to Red, Green and Blue. The only one of its kind, the Foveon sensor produces full bodied images, rich in tone, gradation, and texture with a 3D feel to them. The new Foveon X3 Quattro offers an even higher level of image purity with an increase in resolution to the previous Foveon sensor, sure to bring about new experiences in your photography. The dp2 Quattro was designed and created for true artistic endeavors and also touts improved processing speed, autofocus performance, battery life and better high ISO capabilities than its Merrill predecessors.

Albert Santoso

Sigma 19mm F2.8 EX DN .1/500 f/8 100

Selfie

Myself

Sigma 19mm F2.8 EX DN 1/250 f/2.8 100

dp1 Quattro Compact Digital Camera

One restroom in my house have this nice soft light that around 11am casted nicely in. I'm not one for selfie, but since I'm testing this dp1 Quattro, why not? :)

Garlic Noodle with Tofu

Albert Santoso

Sigma 19mm F2.8 EX DN 1/50 f/4 100

dp1 Quattro Compact Digital Camera

I carry a camera with me every day and lately it's been the dp1 Quattro. While it has an intermittent sensor, 1 of 5 photo would turn great... it's really worth the effort, like this photo.

Movie Night

Albert Santoso

Sigma 19mm F2.8 EX DN 1/30 f/4 500

dp1 Quattro Compact Digital Camera

Another evening walking with a camera, this time thought I tested the dp1 Quattro's 'higher' ISO capability. Not bad at all, as long as I limit it to 400-500 and raise the exposure in post process.

Sunset Ride

Albert Santoso

Sigma 19mm F2.8 EX DN 1/640 f/4.5 100

dp1 Quattro Compact Digital Camera

Riding a bicycle after work, of course with a camera on me. The dp1 Quattro renders the backlight pretty well with nice tonal range.

Sunset Ride 2

Albert Santoso

Sigma 19mm F2.8 EX DN 1/250 f/4.5 100

dp1 Quattro Compact Digital Camera

This 2nd time, I thought I try a darker photo. The camera holds the details well. I love how subtle they are yet still visible.

Mount Wilson's View

Albert Santoso

Sigma 19mm F2.8 DN | A - Black 1/800 f/8 100

dp1 Quattro Compact Digital Camera

11 photos stitched. The Foveon sensor + camera renders monochrome really well.

Cropped/straightened only, otherwise unadjusted. Monochrome mode, straight from camera.

Mount Wilson Observatory

Albert Santoso

Sigma 19mm F2.8 EX DN 1/640 f/8 100

dp1 Quattro Compact Digital Camera

In-camera monochrome mode produces images, pretty close to the way I like it... in this case, no adjustment needed.

Nacho Night

Albert Santoso

Sigma 19mm F2.8 EX DN 1/60 f/4 400

dp1 Quattro Compact Digital Camera

Trying out lower-light situation, shot with no more than ISO 400, then brightened up a bit in Lightroom. Photo holds up pretty well.
