I'm at the beach a lot in the summer months and I love putting my subject in the tall grass and just letting the setting sun illuminate the subject. The hard part is keeping my shadow from the Sun off the subject. This image was shot in natural light f1.4 1/8000 iso 100 85mm. The 1.4 helps to blur the background and the focal length helps me use less area around the subject .

I do a lot of head shots and I love the look of wide open apertures. The 85mm is the perfect focal length for portraits.This image was shot at f1.4 1/800 iso100 85mm, but what makes this lens so cool is its minimum focus range is just under 3 feet (33 inches)so its really amazing to get this close with a 85mm. LOVE THIS LENS!

This image is from a class I taught at Florida School and the concept was to show how to make the sky go bluer by converting your light source to tungsten. My choice of lens was the super fast 85mm . This image was shot at 1.4  1/100  iso400 . The 1.4 aperture helps keep the iso down lower when shooting at night.

When shooting fashion images I prefer wide open lenses with shallow depth of field easy to do with close ups but harder to throw out of focus when shooting full length. This image was shot at f1.4 1/5000 iso100 85mm .The focal length of the 85mm helps to compress the amount of background I am using and seems to bring the mountains closer, but the wide open aperture keeps her from blending into the mountains. I try to place something in the foreground like the tumble weed that helps give more dimension , Timing of the day and placement of the natural lighting determines my camera direction. LOVE THIS LENS.

Jiufen, "nine portions" is a mountainous area in the Ruifang District of New Taipei City near Keelung, Taiwan. I've bought the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art lens more for portraiture shots but I was impressed that it is able to capture very nice landscape shots too. The Sigma Art lens is a fast and very sharp lens, and I love it.

When I was in Nashville visiting my girlfriend she brought me through a small town called Leipers Fork. We walked about the small strip of touristy, quaint stores and old architecture until we came across this porch with a wonderful bench on it. I took this portrait along with 2 others in a triptych I call "The Evolution of A Smile", this photo being the second. The "Event Horizon" of a black hole is the point of no return for matter being pulled in by the immense gravitational forces. I felt that this title was perfect for this portrait as it depicts the point of no return for a smile.

Definitely my sharpest lens!
I bought this lens a few months back and have been able to shoot portraits, weddings, and even a bit of landscape with this lens. If you're looking for a sharp lens, look no further! Aside from my Sigma 35mm Art lens, I don't have any other lenses that I want to use when taking shots of people. It is just an amazing performer and I would highly recommend it!

One of the best lenses I own
This lens is awesome !!! everything the from the price all the way to the performance. The clarity of the shots produced by the lens is next to none. I use the lens for portraits as well as close up action shots during professional soccer matches. IT IS AMAZING !!! I comparing the canon version and the Sigma, I will always use my Sigma. they have out don themselves in the construction of the lens. if the there is one con of this lens, it is just bit on the heavy side but that is being ultra picky. WELL Done SIGMA !!

Excellent Lens worth every penny!
As a pro taking portraits for over 30 years the 85mm focal length has always been my favorite. Since going digital in 2005 the fasted lens I’ve only owned was f2.8. I’m so in love with the bokeh I'm getting between f1.4 and f2 with this lens.

Before purchasing this lens I did a ton of test shots with all the other 85mm’s out there; Canon 1.2 & 1.8, Tamron 1.8 IS, Zeiss 1.4 Milvus (great lens but Manual Focus is not for me), I am very pleased with the choice I made.

When I got this lens I literally took it out of the box and put it on my Canon 5D3 body, with no micro adjustments whatsoever. Both center focus and off-center (maximum) points were right on the money. The focus speed seems very quick and accurate and considering the narrow slice of focus at f1.4 It is much better on getting proper focus than my Canon 100 (IS) Macro at f2.8 or my Canon 24-105 at f4 (Both now sold).

After owning three different copies of the Canon 24-105 over a six year period I found they all mis-focused between 10-15% of the time. So I purchased the SIGMA 24-105 about a year ago. Now fifteen-thousand images later I find the SIGMA nailing close to 100% in perfect focus, not to mention it is much sharper than the Canon. This was part of the reason I had high hopes for this new SIGMA 85mm lens.

I do not find the weight to be a problem whatsoever because it is so well balanced and I know how well it performs on my camera. It is a pro lens, and honestly at this price point, it’s a great value.
