Overview

The Sigma 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM Art lens is a premium lens designed for full frame cameras and will also work with APS-C sensors with an effective increase in focal length. The 24-105mm F4 is a highly versatile focal range and staple everyday lens. With the increasing resolution power of new sensors, it is designed to bring out the true potential of evolving camera technology. Sigma’s 24-105mm f4 includes proprietary Sigma technology including our Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) which ensures fast, quiet and accurate autofocusing as well as our Optical Stabilizer (OS) which compensates for camera shake. A 9 blade rounded diaphragm creates beautiful background blur, while FLD and SLD glass elements compensate for various aberrations, distortion and curvature. The use of Thermally Composite Material (TSC) reduces size and weight and as part of the new Global Vision design, it is compatible with the Sigma USB dock for further customization and the new Mount Conversion Service.

USB Dock Compatibility

Sigma has developed special software (SIGMA Optimization Pro) that can update the lens firmware and adjust parameters such as focus.

Silhouette’s are fun to do on the day of the wedding and I am constantly looking for creative ideas on the day. Having a lens that can work fast with lots of zoom capabilities is why I rely on the 24-105.

My everyday wedding lens is the 24-105. Oftentimes I don’t have time to change lenses and  my hands are full carrying my light, so I like to have be sure that I won’t be wishing I could go back to the truck and get something else. My lighting is normally constant not strobes so that my video crew and I get the same lighting results. The built in image stabilizer is a bonus when shooting with constant lighting. I can’t imagine shooting this image with any other lens but Sigma’s 24-105mm F4.0 DG HSM | A .  It gives me perfect clarity every time from corner to corner.  The ability to change my perspective at a moment’s notice is exactly what I need on these assignments.  Most of these shots happen very quickly and are created in public places.  With people all around me, my task is to get in and out as soon as I can.  Having this particular lens, fast and sharp makes that a pure joy.

Sigma 24-105mm F4 DG (OS)* HSM | A 1/640 F4 160

This image of Steven was a last minute decision as we were riding down the street in Los Angeles on assignment.  The campaign was about mens shoes and my job was to show what they do while wearing them.  I couldn’t have been more thankful I still had the 24-105mm F4.0 DG HSM | A  on my camera at the time. I had pretty much created all the images I needed that day with this lens due to it’s ability to zoom effortlessly at a moments notice.  Photographing in the middle of the afternoon with such harsh light causes me much stress. Sigma’s 24-105mm F4.0 DG HSM | A  lens is so fast and accurate I knew I would be able to capture what a wanted regardless of the light and all the people in my way.   This image works because of the wide-angle perspective.  It took me less than 5 minutes to create this image and several others that were ultimately used for the ad campaign.

Judy Host

Sigma 24-105mm F4 DG (OS)* HSM | A 1/15 sec F9 500

Recently I was working on an ad campaign for one of my clients with Sigma’s 24-105mm F4.0 DG HSM | A  lens.  The space we were working in was very small and I needed to get both subjects, including the piano, in my frame.  Using a ladder and taking an aerial view, I was able to accomplish what I wanted. The ability to change my focal length to a wide angle without having to reposition myself saves me a tremendous amount of time when I’m working in tight spaces and more importantly I’m not missing a moment I won’t get again.

Sigma’s 24-105mm F4.0 DG HSM | A  has been a staple in my bag for quite sometime now. If I had to choose just one lens to travel with, this lens would be my number one choice.  From a wide angle at 24mm to a long lens at 105mm, I can pretty much create whatever I need to with one lens.  When photographing Ballet dancers in the studio, I need a lens that will give me the versatility that I can use as the dancers move about. This lens is my first choice whether I’m in the studio or outside using only natural light.

Of all the portraits I create, I think the most satisfying are the one’s of babies.  When I look at an image like this, I can’t help but smile and hopefully that is what happens when my viewers look at it.  Emily’s portrait was made with Sigma’s 24-105mm 4.0 lens.  My settings were f 4.0 s 1/200 and ISO 1250, because we were photographing in low light in a small room and I needed as much light as I could possibility get without using a tripod. I usually don’t like to use a high ISO which could cause digital noise.  In this case it worked.  I’m photographing wide open and have set my shutter speed to 200 to stop the action making the image very sharp. I used the ISO this time to make up the difference.  Using the window light behind me to illuminate her face and bring up the gorgeous color of those blue eyes, it all made for the perfect portrait.  One of things I love about using natural light in my portraits, is the colors are as real as they can get.

This is an image of Balanced Rock in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah at dusk.  The colors were very dramatic and the 24-105 allowed me to zoom in a bit tighter and isolate the rocks against the distant LaSalle Mountains.  The colors didn’t last very long but were some of the best that I have ever had in all my 16 trips out there!

Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National park may be the most photographed arch in the world.  I have stood there myself more times than I can remember and yet I still find it a magical morning location.  There were no clouds on this day so I used the 24-105 and zoom in on the Washerwoman in the distance and just use part of Mesa Arch as a framing element.

One thing I see a lot of living amongst a large multicultural community is the unnecessary need for people to stereotype other people. This is something that has bothered me for some time. From time to time I see labels being placed on individuals or groups of people without knowing the real damage a label can have on them. From this I decided to look more into it and find the damage it can cause. I decided I go out and capture portraits of individual people around my local and surrounding areas. With this I hope to show that no matter what race, gender, age or style everybody is human. I have decided to promote a message to diminish hate crime. In society today, people seem to be targeted due to prejudice opinion wether that be towards a group or individual. From what I have witnessed these hostile opinions come into the following - Subcultures - Race & Ethnicity - Disability - Sexual orientation In order to communicate this I am creating a series of images along with question and answer. These will be gathered from individuals to show that everybody at the end of the day is human, we are all equal.

Canon 24-105mm F4 DG (OS)* HSM | A 1/50 f4 1600

The whole south shore of the Buriganga river is full of craft workshops where each piece is repaired or produced again. The area is like a huge circle of hell: men work, wrapped in the smoke acrid that permeates the air, between deafening metal noises and sparks glowing. The work is incessant, in the dark places, lighted only by a few light bulbs. Underground fires are always kept on for melting of steel. The task of overseeing the kilns and keeping burning them with coal dust, is often entrusted to the children. The melted metal is mainly used to realize the new helices. Fishing vessels, merchant ships, huge oil tankers: they have been designed and built for resisting to the waves of the ocean in a storm, for lasting decades and carry huge cargoes around the world: but what happens when their end comes, when the last trip begins? According to international laws, to prevent accidents or sanctions for using of inappropriate or dangerous means, the ships have an average life of 25-30 years. After this period the big shipping companies have to dismantle them, because the increase of the insurance and maintenance of worn means makes their use disadvantageous. As the dismantling in industrialized countries is much more expensive and is under to many rules and controls, thanks also to the trade unions, most of the demolition takes place in Asia, especially in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, where the labor is very low costs and the controls on working conditions are non existent. The rates, in particular in Bangladesh, may also be below 50%. Instead of in a shipyard it seems to be in a circle of Dante, where the incessant noise of hammers and electric cutting machines on the sides of the vessels is backbreaking. Only In the city are more than 10 thousand the people working in the vessels demolition In the capital Dhaka and in Chittangong, the second city of country, every year more than 200 big vessels are dismantled, this is a very profitable activity for those who manage it. A medium-sized vessel, for for 3-4 working months, can make from 800 to 900 thousand euro. The profit is due to the recycling of over 90% of the entire hull Most of the vessels are totally dismantled, and some others are repaired with second hand parts and sold for use limited only to Bengali waters. Aftermath, what happen after, is a photographic research not only on the vessels cemeteries, but also and especially on the exploitation conditions of the man, the daily life of these workers. www.erbertozani.com

There had been a big storm with ten foot waves the night before. I came to San Clemente hoping to shoot waves from the pier. The sky cleared by morning and there was a lot of variation in light so I was shooting HDR. The slight variation of alignment might be the cause of the painterly feel of this shot. One of those lucky things.

Very good
This is my main travel lens, on a Canon 5DSR. It is a very good lens -- I am very happy with the feel of it, as well as the results.

However, since Canon upgraded the 16-35 f/2.8 from II to III, this lens has fallen behind in relative sharpness. I would welcome a series two of this lens that gives a nice step up in sharpness, and maybe a little more contrast.

Perfect - A great performer!
After owning three different copies of the Canon 24-105 over a six year period I found they all misfocused between 10-15% of the time. So I purchased the SIGMA 24-105 about a year ago. Now fifteen-thousand images later I find the SIGMA nailing close to 100% in perfect focus, not to mention it is much sharper than the Canon.

I recently tested the new 2017 version of the Canon 24-105 and it is minimally better than the old version. This SIGMA still beats it in every way.

The quality and reputation of this lens was part of the reason recently invested in the new SIGMA 85mm f 1.4 ART lens, it has not disappointed.

Thank you SIGMA for your new ART line of lenses!

Another great value for high performance
I purchased this lens about one week ago for my new Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. I love the lens. Though a bit heavy and somewhat large, it provides first rate photos, apparently equal to or better than the Canon version, and again, at a great price. It is now my primary multi-purpose lens. It is "fast" enough for indoor shoot without a flash and well suited for photography at social functions providing a large range of focal length without sacrificing sharpness or photo quality at both ends of the range. My only criticism is that this lens is not weather proofed unlike its competitors.

Best lens I ever owned
I have owned so many lenses in the past including Nikons original 24-70 and Canon's 24-70 22 and 24-105. This lens is the best I have ever owned. Colours are fantastic, it is incredibly sharp both in the centre and the edge and focussing is superb. It is beautifully made, as good as anything I have had before. The results are stunning and I use this almost all the time. I no longer use primes unless I need really large apertures in poor light. I have owned several of these Sigma Art lenses and have been stunned by every one, but in my opinion, this is the best.
