At a park near Washington, D.C., the sun briefly flashed through cloud cover that had made the day dark and dull overall, the beam reflecting toward me from the waves around this pair of geese. I quickly zoomed in the Sigma ultra-wide-angle lens I had been using for landscapes and captured this fast-disappearing picture, which turned out to be the best of the day. The photo is exactly as it came out of the camera on "program" mode: the stars on the water and on the turtle in the background are simply from the aperture blades.

I recently purchased the Sigma 50mm F1.4 lens and this is a photograph from a test series. I work with the Air Force and this is a photograph of a coworker. Love the lens! Super sharp! I can't be happier.

The Maasai of Tanzania are a tribe almost 2 million strong. Their traditional way of life is being threatened by western culture and consumerism. although most Maasai are happy to take a dollar and have their photo taken, many still feel that a camera steals a portion of their soul, or life force. This beautiful Maasai mother, who had brought her child to a school for developmentally disabled children just outside of Arusha, felt a tinge of embarrassment at first sign of my camera. This is the first of several portraits I shot of her, with permission of course, as we built an ongoing relationship between shooter and subject. Her tenacious being shines through in this photo, even though we cannot see her face.

Swiss pre-Alps

Fashion is a lot of work. After we'd completed photographing the outfits from the boutique, we decided to make some photographs for us. Here, Kenya is sitting, leaning way back bracing herself with her arms on the legs of the stool. I cropped and rotated this photograph to make it look like she is diving. I used the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 portrait lens.

This image was taken as part of an editorial for Papercut Magazine. The theme was "Beautiful" and unusual sunglasses. Here I used a daylight balanced main left (on the left of the frame) and a green gelled fill light (on the right of the frame). It created an interesting and bizarre coloration.

This is one of my favorite beauty editorials. The theme of the shoot was purple and yellow, though this image only features purple. Using my 85mm 1.4 I was able to get just the right amount of compression on the face. The lighting helps to make the model's skin glow against the rich-colored background.

In this create portrait, I played around with obscuring the lens with different objects to help make interesting streaks of light in the image. Here I put a rounded piece of glass directly in front of the left side of the lens. This created the interesting flare and patterns you can see in the background. The coloration of the image was split toning I achieved in Adobe Lightroom using a preset I created.
