Autumn in Colorado...nothing is more spectacular than mountainsides covered with the yellow leaves of aspens. Set off against the black-speckled white bark of the aspen tree trunks, the yellows can be almost overpowering. In such situations, limiting what you depict in your photographs can be beneficial. I did just that for this stand of aspens between Ouray and Silverton: framing a small portions of the trees with my Sigma SD1 allowed me to capture the brilliant colors and the intricate patterns of leaves, depicting part for the whole. Couple the SD1es high resolution with the super-sharp Sigma 70-200 F2.8 OS HSM lens, and youeve got a winning combination: a 35mm DSLR-sized system with the reproduction size and fidelity of a medium format camera.
